Economic activity for Spokane includes natural resources, which is, traditionally, a major commodity. Spokane is also a center of activity for the mining, agriculture, and timber industries in the region.
Spokane Business
The easy access to raw materials and lower operating costs, like cheap hydroelectric power, are responsible for drawing companies to the area from other cities. The leaders of manufacturing include finished wood products, food processing, and metal refinery and fabrication. Spokane is also home to a number of breweries and wineries, so if you're a fan of such drinks, you'll be in heaven!
Spokane Recreation
In Spokane, outdoor activities are in abundance and generally can be enjoyed in the outlying natural areas that provide a home for a variety of interests. These include numerous parks for sightseeing, hiking trails that extend for miles, watersports, and plenty of lakes for fishing! The Olmsted Brothers were appointed by Spokane's board of park commissioners to create a plan for Spokane's parks in 1907. Prior to World War I, the city had acquired much of Spokane's park land. This helped to establish Spokane as a leader among Western cities in the development of a park system that proliferated city-wide.
You will find some of Spokane's most notable parks in their extensive park systems. These include the John A. Finsh Arboretum, the Manito Park and Botanical gardens, Riverside State park, and Riverfront Park.
